"architectonics"
Erkki-Sven Tüür

High-voltage superpower
"Architectonics is presented here as a single work spanning ten years of Erkki-Sven Tüür's creative output. We approach it as music that is rootedand lives in the realm of improvisation and rock. Combining renaissancetexture and melody with driving rhythms of rock, he integrates genres andcreates a unique style.3 "

My pieces are abstract dramas in sound, with characters and an extremely dynamic chain of events. I am very interested in a combination of opposites - tonality versus atonality, regular repetitive rhythms versus irregular complexrhythms, tranquil meditativeness versus explosive theatrics - and especiallyin the way they change from one to another.3 (Erkki-Sven Tüür) Erkki-Sven Tüür was born in 1959 on the Estonian island of Hiiumaa.

His early musical background was centered around the rock music scene with influences of King Crimson, Yes, Genesis and Mike Oldfield. In 1979 he founded a chamber rock group called "In spe" that combined progressive rock elements with early music. Conductor Kristjan Järvi was born in Tallinn, Estonia and moved to New York when he was a young boy. During his college years he craved performances where he could hear a variety of musical styles without boundaries or limits of any kind.

Järvi´s extremely liberal musical tastes and his hunger fororiginality fueled a drive to form an ensemble of his own which he could useas a vehicle for revolutionizing the way people hear and think about music. The result is the Absolute Ensemble in New York: a collection of musical omnivores, dedicated to promoting music from Bach to the Beatles.

Press review:
"...the end result has a fresh, questioning quality which takes the music beyond issues of intellectual fashion. It's all performed with conviction and polish, with sound engineered and mixed atmospherically." BBC Music Magazine Oct. 2001
