When music is really loved it carries something in between the tones that we've already experienced in our mothers womb - something known and yet ungraspable. "Musici" conveys this archaic quality and goes back to the source.

On this CD the two musicians of Greek heritage play Jazz standards while touching our deeper feelings. They also add their experience of ethnic music in the traditional "Missirlu". While listening we become their fellow travellers on their pilgrimage - from Athens, Alexandria and New York to Holy Mt. Athos.

Miltiades Papastamou, violin, was born in Memphis/Tennessee, USA. He studied violin in Athens, London and New York. Besides giving concerts and playing in several groups he also holds the position of "Artist In Residence" in New York´s ABSOLUTE ENSEMBLE, Kristjan Järvi (CCn'C).

Marcos Alexiou, piano, was born in the Greek community in Alexandria, Egypt. After he settled in Athens in the mid-sixties he formed the jazz group "Sphinx" the group that pioneered modern Greek Jazz. He is the author of three books on Jazz and currently teaches at the "Skalkotas Conservatory" in Athens.
